When I get back home after this term, I should be in a position to upgrade my computer considerably. Here are the specs I'm after, based on what I will be able to afford.
Athlon64 3200
2GiB RAM
SoundBlaster Audigy 4
Connect3D x1800GTO, 256MiB RAM, PCI-e
250GiB SATA hard drive (plus my current 160GiB IDE hard drive)
ThermalTake Tsunami Dream case (a sexy beast)
550W PSU (from my current machine)
What do you think? Any improvements I should make (within a reasonable cost)? Is a 7600GT graphics card good enough, for instance?
Edit: Updated the plan to 2GiB RAM and the ATI x1800GTO. _________________

Get that in Laptop form, with an Intel Core Duo instead. That's what I'm getting in a few months. _________________ New ST site :: New ST Forums

Laptop? That'll cost a bloody fortune. Where are you getting it from? _________________

Here's a question for you: nVidia's 7600GT or ATI's x1800GTO?
(Both have 256MiB RAM and are PCI-e.) _________________

Give me links, Rocky! I'd like a laptop, but I've never found one that could let me play games as well as a PC. _________________

H'mm... very interesting. But it'd cost me an extra £200 (which is more than I'll be paying to ship my computer up and down the country next year), and I'd be sacrificing screen size and hard disk space. _________________

Updated the specs slightly. All in all this will come to just under £600 quid. I may be able to reduce that if I buy different components from different online stores (but that might increase the postage costs).
Anyone know any good (UK) stores? So far I've got:
Novatech
Dabs
Komplett
Microdirect _________________

Now that I've got a job and should be earning a pretty wad of cash during these summer 'holidays', I've set my sights a little higher!
Athlon64 3700 (1MiB cache, as opposed to 512KiB)
2GiB RAM
SoundBlaster Audigy SE 7.1
Gigabyte x1900XT, 512MiB RAM, PCI-e
250GiB SATA hard drive (plus my current 160GiB IDE hard drive)
ThermalTake Tsunami Dream case (a sexy beast)
580W PSU (modular, so I don't need all those bloody cables)
And I'm also getting some rounded cables to replace the current floppy/IDE ones, quiet fans for my processor and graphics card and, uh, a remote control. Yeah, I'm a lazy git. Oh, and a surround sound headset and a proper microphone. _________________

Much better graphics card. I'm about to buy the x1900XTX in a few days, which is just a little more expensive. _________________

Yeah. It's tempting, but it's only a few extra FPS in the latest games. _________________
