Oh, for the love of God.
Fine. Looks like I'll have to manually allow and deny new registrations. *Sighs.* _________________

Is there a way you could instead manually (or in a more complicated, but automated manner) approve or disapprove of registered user's ability to post?
Just an idea from a non-programmer. _________________ Aloha means goodbye! |

That would be effectively the same as enabling or disabling their account.
Unfortunately, the only way to stop spam like this is to assume that all new accounts are spammers, so I have to check their details to see if they aren't (i.e. they're a new applicant to the faction or they're someone from MxO), then enable the account.
With your suggestion I would have to enable posting rights instead. Still the same amount of work for me. _________________

Aren't there these spam-safe security codes, you have to enter during registration? How do they get past them? _________________ The English are better than the Americans at being American doctors.

They're not spam-safe anymore, I reckon. _________________

Correct, rumor has it that spamming is now like gold farming. Just some guy being payed to make accounts and copy paste the same messages over and over.
What we need, is a forum system that determines wether or not a post is likely to be spam, like emails have. But that doesn't exist right now, does it? _________________

Not that I know of. And such a system would probably make these forums distressingly slow. _________________

Spam is stupid. Increasing your post count is not stupid. _________________

Yeah, I get an average of 10 of these registrations a day now. E-mail confirmation and sicking Matt on them is all you can really do.
Oh, and have a look for the PHPBB toolkit mod. That's quite useful. _________________ New ST site :: New ST Forums
