I had a bit of an... incident last Friday night, on my way home from work. It's a bit of a long drive, and it's easy to drift off and lose focus - especially that late at night. All of a sudden, this cat runs out in front of me. I swerve to avoid it, and I spun out.
I don't remember much about the ten or fifteen seconds or so after that, except that I was pee-my-pants terrified (I would like to note, however, that I emerged from the incident both dry and clean), and that I stopped on the edge of a pretty good-sized ditch. If my reactions had been a few split-seconds slower, if the road had been a little more wet, if my tires had been a little more worn down... I would have run right into that ditch, which probably would have flipped the car, which probably would have done some major damage. The immediate conclusion? I coulda freakin' died.
So it's been a few days since then, and I've had some chances to pull some lessons from the experience.
First: Next time, hit the damn cat
Second: Life is short - ride the wheels off this mofo
Third (related to "Second", above): Generally be a more happy, expressive person - I'm working on it.
So, I'm just gonna say it: You're all awesome, each and every one of you. Even Rocky, if only because he occassionally emails me stuff he doesn't need.
